What can I expect on my first Sunday at Epworth?
Parking: Parking is available in the lots entered from both Central Avenue and Valleyview Drive, with a few spaces reserved for first-time guests. Parking for physically handicapped persons is also available in both areas and in front of the Valleyview entrance to the church. All three levels of our building are serviced by a centrally located elevator.
Entering building: While there are entrances from every parking lot, the Valleyview Drive and Central Avenue entrances are our “main” ones. Greeters will be happy to direct you to the sanctuary, Sunday school rooms, or the coffee pot! Many of our members wear name tags, so you can easily identify those who can help you.
Please visit the our location page for a map.
Which worship service is right for me?
We offer 3 services and each of them features a different style of worship:
Sunday:
- 8:30am is a classic service which includes weekly communion
- 9:45am is our classic service
- 11:00am is our modern service including the praise band
Holy Communion is offered at each of these services on the first Sunday of every month except the 8:30 service, where Holy Communion is served weekly.
Does Epworth encourage open communion?
How should I dress?
Will I be asked to stand and identify myself as a guest or singled out for any reason during the service?
Will I be expected to give money if I visit?
What do you offer for children and teens?
Do you have worship services other than Sunday morning?
We hold a monthly Service for Healing and Wholeness on the second Tuesday of each month. The service is held in the chapel at 7:00 p.m. Each month a personal testimony of God’s healing touch is shared by an Epworth member or guest speaker. The whole community is welcome to come for prayers and anointing with oil – for your own concerns or for others’. Holy Communion is also served.
What programs are offered at Epworth during the week?
There are so many opportunities at Epworth that it is difficult to answer this question fully.
Some examples:
- We have weekday and evening adult classes
- Volunteer service opportunities
- Social events
- Small groups (Wesley Groups)
- Fitness classes (Body Recall, Body Design)
- United Methodist Women’s circles
To keep informed, visit this site regularly and check our weekly bulletins, subscribe to our weekly email update, our monthly newsletter (The Epworth Tower), or contact us if there is something special you are seeking.
Does Epworth allow nonmembers to use the building for weddings, funeral services or other events?
Epworth’s policy does allow weddings for nonmembers with some restrictions; and it is possible that the church can be used for funerals or other events depending upon availability. For more information, please view our Care and Support page.
How does one become a member of Epworth?
Considering Membership
If you are interested in becoming a member of Epworth, reach out to a member of our pastoral team and sign up for a Quarterly New Member Class. We are delighted to accept new professions of faith as well as transfers of membership. You do NOT have to already be a member of the Methodist church
How to Get Involved
Membership is not required to attend Worship or join a group or committee. We invite you to connect with us at Worship but also at any of our many classes or special events. Membership is not required to attend any of these events. We want you to be able to experience Epworth fully to make sure you feel at home.
New to the Area?
If you are new to the Northwest Ohio/Southeastern Michigan area, welcome to the neighborhood! We have many members that have joined us from across the US after moving to the area. We know how important it is to make connections as you enter a new area. What better way than through the continued learning of your own journey to become closer to God.
